Blurred Photos

Hello Forum,

in all photos I take there are always some points which are out of focus.

I watched all the tutorials of 3D flow and took the following parameters:

F36
ISO 100
1:5

But still I can`t received images who are in equal focus. As a result Zephyr does not accept those images.

What is the reason for that?

Are you using a tripod? Also, make sure to use a remote if you can. Sometimes even the press of the camera button can make it shake. Not sure if this is the case though. Try maybe using f/22. Does your lense have autofocus ? Turn it on, as well as internal stabilization. You're getting there

I use both a tripod and a remote. But the result is always the same.

Apart from what Andrea said, take a look at the principles of macro photography - essentially the depth of field of the lens is not sufficient to sharply capture the full range of the subject.

Smaller aperture will give greater dof but may also be softer generally at the extremes i.e. f36. Hyperfocal distance may be worth studying if you want to get the most potential from your lens.

Andrea - out of interest could Focus Stacking be used for photogrammetry?

Hi Sam,

yes, you can use focus stacking. I - personally - think the time you spent to make a focus stacked image is much longer. If i can't take the image in full focus, i'd rather simply mask out the blurred one and take/mask another couple of shots - however, that's just my workflow.

I personally have processed only a few datasets made with focus stacking but i didn't see any particular issue. Your mileage may vary though!

Is the problem maybe caused by the zoom ring settings. I take my photos with 55mm (Nikon 3300D). Is that ok?

Furkan - it's likely that you're already pretty close to the limits of what you can achieve in terms of DOF.

I'd try what Andrea said above and mask the blurred areas of each image.

The equipment is fine it's just a matter of knowing how to take sharp, in focus images with manual settings on your camera
