What is the benefit of "ignore masking during SfM"?

Hi, When computing a new model, there is an option on the New Project Wizard screen to "ignore masking during SfM". What is the benefit of switching this on? What is the cost of leaving it off?

    Thanking you in advance,

    Noel.

    Hi Noel,

sometimes you may want the background to be considered in the SfM phase, especially when your subject isn't textured. This way you can use something beneath the subject (i.e. a newspaper) to help zephyr figure out the camera orientations. Then however, you don't want to reconstruct the actual table but only the subject. This is what the "ignore masking during sfm" will do: ignore masks only for the SfM phase, but use them for the further steps.
