Lapyx hangs (Win7)

Trying to calibrate my iPad Air with Lapyx on Win7. It hangs after the corners extraction step. Message on screen says to review results and discard any with bad corners; but no images are visible, and the "next" button is disabled. Same with both 32 and 64 bit builds.

With jpegs from my Sony a7r, Lapyx works correctly. I can see no obvious problem with the EXIF data in the iPad jpegs. Converting them to png does not help, get "ERROR: EXIF data mismatch".
