Is there a rough rule of thumb for how many points you can expect from a dataset?

From the Scott Models a Mountains video he made a 400,000pt dense point cloud from 200 photographs.

I have made a 3 million dense point cloud from 5000 photos. I used the defaults much like what Scott did. My cloud seems a bit low, could this be because I have too much image overlap? What other reasons could cause such a low point cloud assuming images are good quality?

    Hi Reuben,

there isn't a rule of thumb that applies to all datasets. However, in general, consider increasing the resolution of the images in the advanced settings if you need more points.

Also make sure to have a proper bounding box.

Yes I see now that the default MVS settings use 25% resolution of the images. Turning this up has helped. Thanks
