External NVidia Cuda GPU?

I was wondering if it is possible to accelerate 3DZephyr with an external NVidia Cuda GPU?
If so has anyone tried this, what was your hardware, what was your experience?

Personally I have not had any experience with external GPU's but from what I hear you typically get a bit of a performance hit and it depends on the laptop in question. Lots of variables to consider.

If you already have a laptop that you are looking to augment, can you please let us know the model/specs, and if you don't already have a laptop, it might make more sense to get one with a powerful discrete Nvidia card built-in (less complexity, less things to go wrong, less headaches )
