    ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS with the upgrade

Have been using 6.006 for the last week, testing the free version. Created about 30 assets.

    Upgraded from 6.006 to 6.008.

The upgrade removed EVERYTHING from my 3DF Zephyr folder, INCLUDING ALL THE 3D MODELS & TEXTURES WHICH I HAD CREATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS at whoever thought it was a brilliant idea to wipe the ENTIRE folder during an UPGRADE process!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously I should've saved my work to a totally different folder, but I have literally NEVER seen a program wipe everything from a folder during an UPGRADE OF VERSIONS.

    I'm absolutely livid.

    Hi,

what do you mean from your 3DF Zephyr folder? If you are referring to the Zepyhr temporary files in %tmp% are automatically deleted on every Zephyr restart exactly because they are temporary (and like every other software that writes in %tmp% ). You should certainly never rely on your temporary folder. If zephyr crashes it prompts to recover your files, but you should always save your work.

Any other directory (unless you're referring to the installation directory, which, of course, is also cleared on upgrade - you should never save any file in your installation directory) is of course untouched during the upgrade process. There is no way zephyr has deleted your work, so make sure you didn't move them by mistake.

Unfortunately, you should consider using recuva or similar recovery software, if you mistakenly deleted your file or contact a local data recovery specialist.

"which, of course, is also cleared on upgrade"

"of course"? OF COURSE?? No, "of course" it's *not* always cleared on upgrade!! A good upgrade package will do just that - UPGRADE - not DELETE THE ENTIRE FOLDER THEN RE-INSTALL!!!!!

A good upgrade package will remove only the files which have changed, then add the new files. It's literally the point of an upgrade. Otherwise it's a re-installation.

Maybe... MAYBE I'd agree with you if it was going from version 5 to 6, but this was going from 6.006 to 6.008. Just overwrite the files which have changed!!! It's not even a .x upgrade! It's a .00x upgrade ffs!

It purged the ENTIRE folder, for example C:\3DF Zephyr\ ..... INCLUDING C:\3DF Zephyr\exports where I had saved everything.

This wasted 3 days of my scanning & cleanup work, which I'm absolutely livid about. I'm going to move to Reality Capture based purely on this, even though it costs money I'd rather give my money to them.

Correct, all files from the installation directory are cleaned up upon upgrade and uninstall procedures.

I understand your frustration but you should never assume a software does not clean up their installation directory. That would be a very bad practice from any software vendor.

As i mentioned, I suggest using recuva or similar recovery software, or contact a local data recovery specialist. Your data is still on your hard drive and it shouldn't be an issue to recover.

Sorry but it's never safe to assume the data is still there & shouldn't be an issue to recover, especially after any further activity on the drive.
I've tried recovery software including Recuva, unfortunately the bulk of the files have been overwritten & are either completely "Unrecoverable", "Very poor" or "poor".
Some of the .obj files are recoverable but the material (.jpg & .mtl) is unrecoverable.

Back to re-processing it all now, I guess. Thanks anyway.
